Land conservation leaders from throughout New England gathered at the Wells Reserve on Monday to share information and discuss ways to increase the rate of land protection. The gathering was organized by the Connecticut-based Highstead Foundation.

The gathering brought together 50 people representing organizations involved in partnerships that work on conservation at a landscape scale. Such efforts typically involve multiple communities and in some instances more than one state.

Other presenters included:

  • Tin Smith – on the Mount Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative
  • Chris Wells – Forest Society of New Hampshire, on a large landscape protection project that straddles the Massachusetts and New Hampshire border
  • Jay Tasku – on the North Quabbin Regional Landscape Partnership in Massachusetts
  • Tim Abbott – on the Litchfield Hills Greenprint Collaborative in Connecticut

In addition to the presentations, all participants shared information on their initiatives and the lessons learned from each. Bill Labich of the Highstead Foundation served as the meeting moderator. Tin Smith and I represented the Wells Reserve.
