A Watershed Council met this morning at the Wells Reserve to continue its collaborative work toward protecting water resources while ensuring clean water for today and for the next generation.

The council recognizes the benefits of economic growth and the challenges of protecting water resources as that growth occurs. Elected officials in Sanford, Wells, and Kennebunk have agreed to support their town's participation in this regional effort to coordinate water planning, management, and protection.

The council's work extends from the "Protecting Our Children's Water 2005-2025" initiative, begun to implement the Branch Brook, Merriland River, Little River Watershed Management Plan.

The Wells Reserve's Coastal Training Program coordinates the Watershed Council.
