Turkey talk

November 22, 2005 By Scott Richardson Filed under Article Tags: birdsfaunaturkeys

Today's Lunch 'n' Learn topic was turkey. Two dozen of us learned about jakes and jennies, as well as dewlaps, snoods, and caruncles.

You won't find those terms defined, but you can learn some more about the bird that almost became our national symbol by searching for turkey in the "Wells NERR LiFE database":http://life.wellsreserve.org/ecology/search.php.

When asked about her favorite turkey experience, presenter Laura Lubelczyk replied:

Finding my first nest. I think it was Kittery Water District land. We were scouting for spots for Chuck's tick study and I happened upon it.

Enjoy your turkey day!
