Spotlight on Research, Summer 2012

Posted by Wells Reserve Contributor | August 13, 2012

I want to share some pictures that highlight some nice days for research throughout the local area, including the Saco River, the Merriland River, Branch Brook, the Little River Salt Marsh, and Big Daddy's Ice Cream.

A wonderful day to pull the wings of the fyke nets!Jake Aman and AmeriCorps Research Intern Clancy Brown at one of the various marsh sites along the Saco River estuary, monitoring the fyke nets installed to study fish living in the marshes.

Wells Reserve and UNE interns returning from collecting the fyke nets.A group of researchers returns from a journey on the Saco River, where they examine the fish that live in the marshes, using a system of nets that is deployed for a full tidal cycle.

Tim, Emily and Ciara pose as they clear out crab traps.

Research Interns Tim and Emily, as well as volunteer Ciara, are able to pose for a picture while analyzing the experiments with algae, snails, and Green crabs set up in the Little River Salt Marsh.
