Interns signed on for summer '10

Every summer, Wells Reserve staffers mentor a number of students and graduates who want to gain experience in research, conservation, and education. This year, about a dozen interns will walk through the doors of the Maine Coastal Ecology Center after leaving places near and far. We'll start to see the early arrivals in just a few weeks.

One of the new faces will be Ashley Pinkham, a graduating senior in the Biology Department at Plymouth State College. As a Maine Conservation Corps environmental educator, Ashley will coordinate volunteers evaluating stream crossings to determine if they form barriers to fish movement. She will also be studying fish communities in the Saco River, supporting water quality monitoring in the Mousam and Kennebunk Rivers, and working with other interns on a variety of projects.

In the fall, Ashley will work with local conservation groups to plan a conference on river habitat and connectivity.
