Coastal Resource Library

The Coastal Resource Library at Wells Reserve is a specialized collection of materials focused on the natural history of the Gulf of Maine region and other coastal topics.

COLLECTIONS
  • More than 3,000 volumes on coastal environments, estuarine issues, and watershed conservation.
  • Materials to guide coastal decision-makers toward stewardship of land and water resources.
  • Valuable curriculum and reference guides for K–12 educators.
  • Specialized research collection emphasizing estuarine ecology.
  • Books, periodicals, and audio and visual materials available to general public, researchers, educators, and students.
  • Significant reference collection available on site.
  • Online searchable catalog at www.wellsreserve.org.
SERVICES
  • MINERVA online catalog provides access to more than 6 million items statewide.
  • Weekly Interlibrary Loan Service.
  • Quick reference to Library of Congress catalog system.
  • Electronic library cards, check-out, and check-in.
  • Borrowers reserving materials are notified when items become available.
REGULATIONS
  • Books and audio-visual materials circulate for 3 weeks.
  • Two renewals are allowed provided no request is on file for that material. Special extensions may be available for educators using library materials in classrooms.
  • Reference room materials and periodicals are for on-site use only.
  • Overdue fine to be determined.
  • Copier available to public at $.10 per page.
  • Borrowing privileges are suspended if library materials are not returned or fees not paid. Restricted patrons are still welcome to use library resources on site.
  • Circulation records confidential and private as defined by state and federal law.
GETTING INVOLVED
  • Train as a volunteer library assistant.
  • Donate appropriate books, periodicals, and audio-visual materials.
  • Join Laudholm Trust to support the Wells Reserve.
LIBRARY COMMITTEE

A Library Advisory Committee composed of staff and volunteers guides library operations. For 2007, Ann Wallace is chair, Amanda Spenlinhauer vice chair, and Don Somers secretary. Questions about the Coastal Resource Library should be submitted to the Education Director, Sarah Jolly.
