WELLS RESERVE ANNOUNCES WINTER PROGRAMS

WELLS, MAINE - The Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm has a great series of programs and events lined up from January through April and many of them are absolutely free. They are all described in the reserve's new calendar, which can be downloaded from www.wellsreserve.org or requested by calling (207) 646-1555.

The program calendar lists more than 20 talks, walks, and workshops targeting kids or adults. First up, a brown bag lunch on January 27 at noon, where Eddy van Hunnik will talk about restoring marshlands in the Netherlands. On February 3 at 7 pm, underwater photographer and videographer Bob Michelson will teach participants how to identify common fish in the Gulf of Maine. Winter Family Fun Day is February 7 from noon to 4 pm and school vacation week promises three different programs in the Wells Reserve's Just for Kids series.

Trails are open every day from 8 am to 5 pm for skiing, snowshoeing, birding, exercise, and simple solitude. The Visitor Center and ecology exhibits are open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.

The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve is at 342 Laudholm Farm Road, just off of Routes 1 and 9 near the Wells-Kennebunk line. The Reserve is committed to investigating coastal environments and increasing understanding of their ecology.
