WATER TESTING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT WELLS RESERVE

WELLS, MAINE - The Watershed Evaluation Team at the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve is currently recruiting volunteers for the summer season. If you are interested in your local water quality or just want to take part in a fun hands-on program, call Jonathan Hardingham at (207) 646-1555 ext 142 or email him at jhardingham@WellsNERR.org. No experience is necessary and full training is provided.

The success of the WET program depends on consistent, accurate data collection over many years. Thanks to the sustained efforts of dozens of WET volunteers, scientists at the Wells Reserve have the data they need to evaluate water quality in two local watersheds.

WET volunteers sample water at designated sites in two local estuaries, then complete lab analyses of six water quality parameters.

The WET summer schedule is tentatively set, with field training on Monday, June 28, and lab training on Tuesday June 29. Both trainings run from 9 am to noon. WET sampling dates are currently planned for July 12, July 27, August 9, and August 25.

The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, with facilities at historic Laudholm Farm, is committed to investigating coastal environments and increasing understanding of their ecology.
