www.wellsreserve.org/news/2004-08-16_crafts.htmLAUDHOLM NATURE CRAFTS FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 11 AND 12WELLS, MAINE -- The seventeenth annual Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival will be held at the Wells Reserve, 342 Laudholm Farm Road, Wells on September 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival features 90 of New England's finest artists and craftspeople in a spectacular historic setting. Sculpture, jewelry, pottery, prints, clothing, photography, and basketry are among the crafts selected by jury for this prestigious event. Admission is $5 per person. The Wells Reserve has a no pets, no smoking policy. Music will drift through the seaside air, with Dr. Chifuru Noda playing acoustic guitar on Saturday. Lunch fare will feature lobster rolls, chowder, wraps, and lots of scrumptious desserts. A network of trails will entice visitors to explore the fields, forest, marsh, and beach of Wells Reserve. Guided nature walks will be offered at 1 pm each day. Many artists contribute a crafted item to the Laudholm Raffle, which also features a beautiful handmade quilt and braided rug made by Laudholm volunteers. With so many extraordinary prizes, the raffle tradition is wildly popular among festival goers. Kennebunk Savings Bank sponsors the event, which also receives important support from businesses including The Bull and Claw House, Hannaford Bros., Humpty Dumpty Snack Foods, Jake's Seafood, Lyons Coffee Service, The Maine Diner, Preble Seafood, the Scoop Deck, SeaVu Campground, and the Spiller Farm Store. All Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival proceeds benefit Laudholm Trust, which supports the research, education, and stewardship programs at the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve. In keeping with the mission of the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm, recycling is encouraged. The Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm is located just off Routes 1 and 9 near the Wells-Kennebunk line.
