www.wellsreserve.org/news/2004-09-14_volunteers.htmLAUDHOLM TRUST AND WELLS RESERVE RECOGNIZE VOLUNTEERSWELLS, MAINE - Each year, nearly 500 volunteers contribute more than 14,000 hours of their time to support Laudholm Trust and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve. Recently, the two organizations celebrated their dedication with a dinner and awards ceremony at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm. The following awards were conferred during the 2004 volunteer recognition event: Copper Beech Award, Fran Goodwin, Nancy Titcomb, and Mary Beckley; Laudholm Award, Jean and Don Somers; Lily Rice Kendall Award, Marla McCurdy; Conservation Award, Owen Grumbling; Contribution to Research Award, Fred Dillon; and Good Neighbor Award, Charles Lord. Recognized as Volunteers Extraordinaire were Rob Olson, Lottie Fortune, Mark Higgins, Tim Mabon, Eddie Van Hunnik, Thom Campbell, Betsy van Gundy, Pat Smith, Janet Weston, and the Punkinfiddle Committee (Diana Joyner, Jan Wirth, Jen Comeau, Eileen Willard, and Bill Lord). The Wells Reserve and Laudholm Trust depend on volunteerism for education programs and research projects, special events and long-range planning, hospitality and logistics, groundskeeping and stewardship, and many other activities. The organizations are located at 342 Laudholm Farm Road, just off Routes 1 and 9 near the Wells-Kennebunk line. The site boasts several historic buildings and seven miles of easy hiking trails through fields and forests to salt marshes and a sandy beach. # # #
