HAWKS AND SNAKES ARE PART OF WELLS RESERVE TALK

WELLS, MAINE - Are they ruthless killers or delicate ecosystem balancers? Find out about raptors and reptiles, their adaptations, and the "tools" they use to survive in a special talk on Thursday, June 23, at 7 pm at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm. The presentation is free with Wells Reserve admission, but donations are accepted. Reservations are not needed. Please bring a mug for free organic coffee or tea. For information, call (207) 646-1555.

With assistance from raptors and reptiles living at the Center for Wildlife, Karen McElmurry will examine the lives of these often misunderstood creatures. McElmurry will explore the hawk's talons, the turtle's shell, the snake's tongue, and other kinds of equipment these animals need to hunt and hide.

This is the second in the Wells Reserve's 2005 monthly lecture series. Next up: The Lobster Coast with Colin Woodard on July 28.

The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, with facilities at historic Laudholm Farm, is committed to investigating coastal environments and increasing understanding of their ecology. The reserve receives core funding from the nonprofit Laudholm Trust and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Wells Reserve is located at 342 Laudholm Farm Road, just off Routes 1 and 9 near the Wells-Kennebunk line. For more information, visit www.wellsreserve.org.
