Guides will be on hand at each location. Brochures and maps are available now at Wells and Ogunquit town halls and chambers of commerce, and will be at each location on the day of the tour. For information, call the Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit at (207) 646-4775 or the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm at (207) 646-1555 ext 118.

The historic places tour includes five properties.

Ogunquit Heritage Museum at the Winn House

Just south of Ogunquit Village, at 86 Obeds Lane, this 1780 Maine cape was the home of Captain James Winn. The Winn House is surrounded by an eighteenth-century garden and the Dorothea Grant Common.

Beach Plum Farm

On U.S. Route 1 north of Ogunquit Village, Beach Plum Farm is now home to the Great Works Regional Land Trust. This farm is the remnants of a traditional saltwater farm of the early nineteenth and twentieth century. Buildings include the farmhouse and barn (now converted to offices), as well as three back barns, one of which houses the Roby Littlefield Museum. Beach Plum Farm also hosts community gardens.

Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit

On U.S. Route 1 in Wells is the "Meetinghouse," a former Congregational Church, which is now home to the Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit offices, genealogical library, and history museum. The galleries have just been renovated and will be open to the public on this tour.

Division 9 Schoolhouse Museum

On Route 9 (North Berwick Road) in Wells, this museum was a one-room schoolhouse built by the town between 1899 and 1901. It provides a present-day link to the educational opportunities that existed in Wells a century ago.

Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm

Located at 342 Laudholm Farm Road in Wells, this site is now headquarters to the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, dedicated in 1986. The Wells Reserve mission focuses on research, education, and stewardship in coastal environments, but with its partner Laudholm Trust, the reserve maintains strong ties to its cultural roots.

Bean Supper

Make time at the end of your tour for a ready-made supper served in the Laudholm barn. Enjoy a heartwarming, belly-filling, friend-meeting Saturday evening feast featuring pots of beans cooked the old-fashioned way. Supper runs from 5 to 7 pm and costs just $7 for adults and $4 for kids. Fiddler Stephen Mallory will provide entertainment.
