LIGHTHOUSES FEATURED IN WELLS RESERVE TALK

WELLS, MAINE - On Thursday, August 25 at 7 pm, lighthouse authority Tim Harrison will visit the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm to talk about why we should save lighthouses and their history. The presentation is free with Wells Reserve admission, but donations are accepted. Reservations are not needed. Please bring a mug for free organic coffee or tea. For information, call (207) 646-1555.

Tim Harrison, president of the American Lighthouse Foundation, says you can learn more about early American history by studying lighthouses than from any other source. Did you know that the man who saved the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution is the same man who ran our nation's lighthouses for 32 years? Or, how about the man who built many lighthouses and missed becoming President of the United States by only hours. Along with amazing stories, Harrison will reflect on the romance and intrigue of New England's lighthouses.

Harrison, co-founder of Lighthouse Depot in Wells, is also editor and publisher of Lighthouse Digest and has authored several books including Lighthouses of Maine and New Hampshire, Lost Lighthouses, and the children's coloring storybook The Littlest Lighthouse. Copies of some books will be available for purchase and autographs.

This is the fourth in the Wells Reserve's 2005 monthly lecture series. Next up: Coastal Birds in Maine and Iceland with Bruce McMillan on September 22.
