www.wellsreserve.org/news/2005-09-28_deepsea.htmHISTORY, MYSTERY, AND SCIENCE OF THE DEEP SEAWELLS, MAINE - Dave Jourdan, deep ocean explorer of history, mystery, and science, will present his discoveries in a talk at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm on Wednesday, November 9, at 7 pm. The presentation is free, though donations are accepted. Please bring a mug for free organic coffee or tea. FMI (207) 646-1555. This presentation is rescheduled from October 27. Jourdan will describe locating the lost Israeli submarine Dakar, discovering a 2,200-year-old Hellenistic trading vessel, and the ongoing search for aviator Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Electra. These missions involved operations at depths greater than 10,000 feet. Jourdan will explain how undersea technology can be used to gather knowledge of the deep, with the ultimate goal of improving stewardship of the world's oceans. David Jourdan was president of Nauticos Corporation for sixteen years before he sold the core business to Oceaneering International in 2003. His career has been devoted to the exploration of the deep oceans, concentrating in the areas of remote sensing and underwater navigation. During his commission as a U.S. Navy submarine officer and as a physicist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, he became an expert in the exploitation of large undersea environmental data sets, specializing in information collected by U.S. Navy ocean research submersibles and associated development programs. Jourdan has authored several papers on the use of remote sensing and navigation systems for underwater vehicles. In 1999, he was honored as Maryland's Small Business Person of the Year and awarded Ernest and Young's Entrepreneur of the Year in Science and Technology. # # #
