Art Workshops

Join us for a special art program with Berri Kramer and Susan Wilder of the Heartwood College of Art. Capture the beauty of a summer in Maine as you create your own framed piece to take home or give as a gift.

Botanical Illustration

This 3 hour workshop is based on observation of the plant world with a focused celebration of the exquisite forms found in nature. Emphasis is on directly observing the particular details of various plant forms and learning how to communicate these discoveries as the main subject of your artwork. Pencil drawing, ink and color washes will be explored as well as instruction in the basics of rendering such as line weights, scale and composition. Botanical subjects will be chosen from the Wells Reserve grounds. Beginning and intermediate students welcome. Instructor: Susan Wilder

Designed By Nature

This 3 hour workshop will explore the patterns in the natural world through the exploration of color, repetition and division of space. The collage medium, stamping, rubbings and printmaking on handmade paper will be explored. A successful piece will capture botanical images and their simple and exquisite forms. A variety of papers and applications of color will be investigated which will result in a finished piece. This is the perfect hands-on workshop for beginners and experienced designers alike. Instructor: Berri Kramer

Both workshops will be held at the same time on Sunday, August 1st.  Choose one or the other to join, but everyone will share one classroom and have the opportunity to view other students' work, and each a participant will go home with a framed piece.
