Every Maine community includes small dams along our rivers and streams. Many of these dams no longer serve a purpose and are not maintained yet continue to block fish passage, fragment habitat, degrade water quality, and present a potential safety hazard. This workshop will share experiences gained from dam removal projects in Maine and throughout the Northeast. If there is a local dam removal project in your future this is your workshop.
Workshop topics will include:
- Case studies from Maine
- Identifying potential projects
- Determining project scope
- Paying for it
- Developing a work plan
- Navigating the permitting process
- Troubleshooting, and more!
Who should attend? State and Municipal Officials, watershed and river organizations, land trusts, conservation commissions, and dam owners who no longer want to be dam owners.
Workshop cost is $20 by November 23rd. Price includes the Dam Removal Project Manager Manual and lunch. Space is limited.
Sponsored by Maine Rivers, American Rivers, the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve and NOAA Fisheries Service.
