Estuaries give us many reasons to be grateful, but high on our list this year is their importance to one particular Maine icon: the American Lobster (Homarus americanus).

WELLS, Maine, October 1, 2012 — The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve and Laudholm Trust have honored the late Dr. Michele Dionne, the reserve’s lead scientist and long-time research director, by placing her name on the research laboratory of the Maine Coastal Ecology Center at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm. The announcement was made by Laudholm Trustee Cynthia Daley and Reserve Director Paul Dest at a memorial service held at the reserve on September 23.

Thursday was a beautiful evening for the annual Partners' Reception, a bright and lightly breezy opportunity for intimate conversation just within the Laudholm barn's wide doors. This gentle event is a way of thanking the most generous supporters of an extraordinary place and the important work done here.
