Education Director Suzanne Kahn reflects on her Linblad Expeditions-National Geographic Society expedition experience in the Western Pacific as a Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship Alumna.

Using ocean drifters (small buoys carrying GPS units) as a stand-in for microscopic lobster larvae will allow scientists to get a better idea of where those larvae drift during their first weeks living as plankton before they settle to the bottom where they grow to adulthood.

The White House has released a draft implementation plan for National Ocean Policy, demonstrating ongoing progress on a massive task. The draft implementation plan is guided by four themes:

1. Adopt ecosystem-based management
2. Obtain, use, and share the best science and data
3. Promote efficiency and collaboration
4. Strengthen regional efforts
