The National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) System has 29 Reserves located around the United States including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. In September of 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated most of the island of Puerto Rico, including Jobos Bay NERR. Sue Bickford was part of the group of Reserve volunteers that went over in June to help the staff of Jobos Bay NERR with recovery efforts. One of her tasks was to fly drone missions to document the state of their estuaries, which would help guide the recovery efforts.
