Imagine dancing with an octopus, looking into the jaws of a great white shark, accidentally annoying an aggressive Humboldt squid, walking on fresh lava, or learning about family life from a dolphin. Author Mary Cerullo’s presentation will be lively, interactive, and full of surprises!
Mary uses amazing images by her underwater photographer collaborators, props, samples of books in progress, and lots of stories about the subjects of her books and research process. By highlighting interviews with researchers, new discoveries in science, and her own adventures with dolphins, sharks, and octopuses, Mary strives to capture the excitement of doing science.

About the Presenter
Mary Cerullo started teaching and writing about the ocean at the New England Aquarium in Boston. Her career as a science interpreter, translating research to make it accessible for non-scientists, has allowed her to indulge her curiosity about many aspects of marine biology, geology, and maritime history. She loves to immerse herself in her research, like when she got to dive with ten Caribbean reef sharks off Freeport, Bahamas. Mary has published 23 children’s books on the ocean, as well as a handbook for teachers on using children’s literature in the science classroom.
