Gardens bring delight to gardeners, visitors, and people passing by. They can also provide important habitat for birds, bees, butterflies and other animals that bring your landscape to life with activity. Discover ways to attract beneficial wildlife to your garden using ecologically friendly gardening practices.

Amy Witt is an educator and horticulturist with over 25 years’ experience developing, coordinating and providing educational programs and events in southern Maine. 

Amy was the horticulturist with the University of Maine Extension in Cumberland County for the past 16 years. She is now the director of Earth Walkers, a company that provides nature based educational programs, events and consulting services.

In her role with UMaine Extension, Amy developed and managed the UMaine Gardens at Tidewater Farm (an educational garden that provides education related to sustainable food production and ecologically compatible landscapes); developed and delivered education programs to home gardeners, Master Gardener Volunteers and the general public; coordinated the Master Gardener training program in Cumberland County; managed the Maine Harvest for Hunger Program; and consulted with home gardeners, landscaping and nursery professionals regarding home gardening issues.

Amy has a degree in Horticulture and is a Master Gardener Volunteer. She is a current trainer for Landscape for Life and was an instructor for the National Wildlife Federation’s Wildlife Steward program.
