Song and dance, along with storytelling, are important activities among Native American communities.  This presentation will offer the opportunity to experience both traditional and contemporary drumming/singing while incorporating stories of each song and the dance styles that accompany them. 

Chris Sockalexis (Penobscot) is the Penobscot Nation Tribal Historic Preservation Officer. He is also one of the lead singers for the powwow drum group, The RezDogs, who travel throughout the Northeast singing at powwows, festivals and gatherings. Chris is currently working on his Master’s degree in Archaeology at the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute focusing on Archaic Ceremonial Burials in the Gulf of Maine. Chris is an avid paddler and loves being out on the rivers and lakes that his ancestors have traveled since time immemorial.
