Western Mexico's Sonora State is a tourist-friendly destination for Americans, Canadians, and others. Pam Parrott and Don Leuchs traveled there last winter and bring back tales of a fiery landscape, centuries of humanity eking out survival, and a mighty river that no longer empties into the sea. Explore the Pinacate Mountains and Grand Desert Biosphere Reserve with us. Visit ancient volcanoes and lava flows right on the sea. Imagine life in a desert and the ever-changing role of humans in shaping its destiny.

Our goal is to have fun and seek out adventures, but it is always the adventures that you tell your friends about when you get home!

Pam Parrott is a seasoned educator who brought students to the Reserve for years in cooperation with the Teachers on the Estuary program. Don Leuchs is a lifetime conservationist and land preservation specialist. Since retirement they have led trips in the Everglades, the Florida Keys, and right here at the Reserve discussing the importance of estuaries in our daily lives.
