About the Talk

What role should civil discourse play to bring change or make peace?

Public policy expert Craig Freshley will share his views and lead a discussion. Craig will explain how civility in politics is eroding and how the party divide is growing. He will share lessons learned from his own experiences with moderating discussions among conservatives and liberals.

If you are wondering, “What should be done to combat political craziness?” If you are questioning, “What part should I play?” Come hear what Craig has to say. Ask questions. Share answers.

About Craig

As a volunteer, Craig Freshley has organized 20 Make Shift Coffee Houses, places where liberals and conservatives come to understand each other’s political views. There’s always live music, free food, and drinks. All people are always welcome and there is never a charge. Make Shift Coffee Houses are held in libraries, on college campuses, in grange halls, church halls, school cafeterias, and many other places, with over 1,200 attendees so far.

As a professional Craig has facilitated over 3,000 meetings almost entirely in the public sector for nonprofits, community groups, and governments. He has written a book called The Wisdom of Group Decisions and has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy. He has worked for a statewide nonprofit and for Maine's state government. Craig has published over 100 how-to videos, 160 one-page tips, and 25 handouts — all about group dynamics and all available for free.

Since the day Craig started Good Group Decisions, his company has given 1% of all gross revenues, before expenses, to social justice and environmental nonprofits. Learn more at CraigFreshley.com.

Craig is lives in a cohousing community in Brunswick, Maine.
