Report from Charleston: The 2019 NERRS/NERRA Meeting

Posted by | December 27, 2019 | Filed under: Culture

Half our staff and some key volunteers attended this year's meeting of all 29 reserves, hosted in South Carolina the week before Thanksgiving. This annual conference is a must for program leads in research, education, and stewardship, who gain insights from colleagues around the country and embark on joint projects best arranged face to face. The executive directors of the reserve and trust make the most of their time, too, coordinating with peers at other reserves and addressing issues facing the NERR system as a whole.

Congratulations

As we've already written, our multitalented Stewardship Coordinator Sue Bickford was honored with the System-wide IMPACT Award, our SWMP tech and telemetry king Jeremy Miller received the Technical Assistance Award, and intern Julia Sagaser's short film "The Laudholm Census" earned the NERRS Film Fest Tidal Award. Such talent at your reserve!

Sue Bickford (front left) accepts congratulations from NOAA Program Manager Erica Seiden at the 2019 NERRS/NERRA meeting. They are joined by stewardship coordinators and others from throughout the system.
