Assisting with a Maine environmental summer camp was the perfect fit for a landlocked Tennessean with a desire to explore the shore and learn along with kids.

Nine Portland High students fill a week of summer camp with outdoor discovery at the Wells Reserve.

Join us for hands-on day camps, with seven miles of trails to discover as our outdoor classroom! Summer camps are for ages 6 to 12 and run from 9am-3pm, with both single day and week-long options. Financial aid is available!

New faces arrive each June to assist with education and research programs for the summer. This year we welcome Cassie, Grace, Larissa, and Jessica, and welcome back Amanda.

Yesterday, a foggy morning in Southern Maine made for some interesting perspectives.

Now that we are heading into May, the schoolyear's biggest vacations are over. But during February and April breaks, campers headed to the Wells Reserve for plenty of outdoor fun and learning, and this year was a blast! It’s not every day you meet a butterfly named Sargent Buck. Similarly, it isn’t too common to come across a butterfly named Colonel Adams. However, if you should happen to visit the Wells Reserve in the next few days, you might just get the chance.

Last Monday, Kate brought in 26 Painted Lady chrysalises, which were pinned to the top of a small netted enclosure and left to hatch in the Teaching Lab. Though not explicitly related to the theme, the butterflies became an integral and exciting part of last week’s Seashore Sleuths camp. That day, we ogled as the chrysalises shook in anticipation of their next transformation.
